Roughstuff Cycling in the Alps ISBN 0 9541752 0 4
This books brings together in one place, and adds new material to, the six Alpine roughstuff guides published for private circulation by Ciem Clements in the period 1988-92. For reasons of copyright Clem’s detailed sketch maps have had to be omitted. Nearly 300 routes are covered, ranging from easy unsurfaced roads at little more than 1000m to steep footpaths above 3000m, and from the southern French Alps to the Dolomites and the Austrian Tyrol. Appendices give tips for the beginner, advice on equipment and maps, and suggestions for routes not covered in the guide. There is a sketch map for each of the guide’s sixteen sections, also colour photographs and an index. Reviewed in the Rough-Stuff Journal, vol. 47, no. 2, page 11, but please note that the book has no single author. Available for £10.00, including postage and packing, from Ibex Press, 68 Alfred Road, Ashford, Kent TN24 0PH (cheques payable to Ibex Press, please).
