7th January Ride around the Longsleddale and the Kentmere Valleys.
Peter’s shoe warmer were the major topic of conversation at our lunch stop on the ride (see photo above) and wonder why? Any way getting on with the ride report, nine members headed out from the Kendal Leisure Centre along the cycle track and few of Kendal side streets and we were soon on the A6 heading for the cafe at Morrison Supermarket for morning coffee and for Brian Parkinson’s second breakfast of Porridge.
After morning coffee we headed short distance up the A6, before turning on to Gilthwaiterigg Road which brought back memories of last years South Lakes January Ride where all the members on the ride got wet feet when Kendal hit by the storm clouds. We then continue on and over Sprint Bridge before turning on to Garnett Bridge Road, which we followed up to the village of Garnett Bridge, we then followed the road up Longsleddale with short break at the toilets by the church up to Sadgill. Where we turn on to our first and only track of the day and yes we allow to take it easy its only the Group’s first ride of the new year. After heading up through Sadgill Wood and before you ask Brian Parkinson did ride all way up, we soon stop for a lunch break after the gate on to the main fell and where the bridleway which heads over to Skeggles Water leaves the main track over to Stile End.
After our lunch stop, we headed up the steep part of the track which everyone had to walk before enjoying ride down to Stile End, where we headed down the Kentmere valley to Wilfs at Staveley and for some of the party to look around Wheelbase cycle shop.
Afternoon coffee stop headed back to Kendal along the lanes on the east side of the Kent Valley.
