South Lakes Group on the Settle Loop of the Pennine Bridleway.
August 22nd The Settle Loop and Feizor
After welcoming Hilary and Roger Thorp up for the weekend from the Midlands and Geoff Bell and David Hall over from the North East. The ten of us headed out of Stainforth across the B6479, then through Little Stainforth and then followed Stainforth Lane up the valley, we soon join the Helwith Bridge to Austwick Road which we follow towards Austwick. After about mile we turn off on to the bridleway and headed for Feizor, making our through Lower Bark House Farm we where soon at summit of this pass before enjoying a freewheel into Feizor.
We then followed Kiln Hill Lane, then Brunton Road which we followed to the summit of Buck Haw Brow where enjoy another freewheel down into Giggleswick, we then followed the B6480 into Settle for morning coffee.
After morning coffee we continue along the B6480, we turn off on to Lodge Road which up and through Lodge Farm. We soon pushing our bikes up the bridleway through Hudsa Plantation and enjoying good views all around us, it was surprising how small Settle look in the valley below. We then join the Pennine Bridleway and followed the signs for the newly open Settle Loop of the Pennine Bridleway along Lambert Lane, then for short strength of tarmac and then on to Stockdale Lane. We stop for lunch on the side of the track, with views Stockdale Farm in the dale below.
After lunch we continue along the track, in places ridding and has we got nearer the summit of the track, we had to get off push the bikes up the track. At the summit of track, we soon on our bikes, after about half mile, we soon dropping down towards Malham Tarn, we then follow the rest of loop back around to Langcliffe for afternoon tea at the village hall where we spent about hour sat on the village green before heading back up the valley to Stainforth.
