22nd January: Ingleton Area.
Yes for change got to start early, after saying hello to Charles, Brian Marsh, and Fred & Pat Lloyd, we had to wait for few minutes for Steve Griffith and Peter Kenner to appear has they had decide to ride up from Lancaster (Steve was staying at Peter over the weekend, members should note that the Chairman does like chocolate biscuits and Peter did say something about hiding the packet when the Chairman comes to stay again).
We soon heading out of High Bentham along Bentham Road towards Ingleton, as we nearer to Ingleton the pace did pick up, its must have been the smell of the coffee brewing in the café at Inglesports, yes it was noted that your Chairman was first at the counter to order his second breakfast, yes he was so impress by the northern portions and service he ask me to put Inglesport Café on the Fellowship’s Complimentary Journal List.
After longer than usual morning coffee break, we headed out of Ingleton along Oddies Lane and up to Twisleton Hall, then short distance along the white road which heads over into Kingsdale before we turn off to follow the bridleway over Twisleton Scars, yes we did have get off and push bikes up the track but the views were great. We soon back on the bikes, we had great views of Ingleborough and Whernside all the way along the bridleway and I also recommend taking a few minutes to look at the limestone paving. Yes it was soon one o’ clock; we stop for lunch near end of the track.
After lunch we soon join the tarmac and follow this up to Ellerbeck Farm and then follow the bridleway through several farms to Gunnerfleet Farm where Steve left us headed down to Horton-in-Ribbledale to meet former RSF member John Bell.
We rejoin the tarmac and then follow the lanes up to the B6255, which we follow for short distance before heading back down Chapel-le-Dale via the Roman Road and Oddie’s Lane into Ingleton where we stop for afternoon tea at Inglesport café. You can see a photo of coffee cake I had in the photo gallery on the South Lakes Website.
After afternoon tea, we headed back to cars at High Bentham via Bentham Road where Peter left to cycle home.
