Ride report by Simeon Orme

It was pretty grim weather forecast for the weekend, with Saturday being the better day, so I no fix ideals where we going to go on ride, it was fast ride from Halton up the Lune Valley aided by a tail wind to start of the ride at the Bridge House Farm Tearooms in Wray where I was join by Jeremy and Norman.

After enjoying coffee and cakes in the Tearoom, we decided to have wander around the lanes of the Hindburn Valley and then have ride over to Great Stone of Fourstones above High Bentham, then see how day pan out regarding the weather.

The omens for me on the first climb out of Wray were not great due to chain slipping and ended up walking up the first climb which later sort out after the ride with detour into Lancaster to buy a new chain and cassette.

So after climbing out of Wray, we followed lanes through Botton, then climb up and over White Moss before dropping back down into the Hindburn Valley. We then cross over the River Hindburn via Stairend Bridge, after climb up to High Ivah, we followed the tarmac down the Hindburn valley through Lowgill to Mill Bridge where did a interesting climb up to Lowgill Church which stop at to have a look around and then sat in Church porch to have our sandwiches.

After our lunch stop, we climb up Knott Hill, then turn on to Rantreefold Road, where stop to take shelter from passing shower and put on water proofs, we continue up Rantreefold Road which turns into Aikengill Road, the weather had start to go downhill as we turn on to Slaidburn Road which followed across Loftshaw Moss pass the Great Stone of Fourstones where we had brief stop to look across at the Great Stone and we decide that the weather was not going to improve, the best policy was to head back to Wray for afternoon brew at the Bridge House Farm Tearoom, all going to say about ride back via Mewith Lane it was not pleasant.

Once we finished our afternoon brew, the weather had improve, it was not bad ride home.
