Ride report by Simeon Orme

It was one of those days that you just hope the Met Office had got the weather forecast wrong but for change they were right about then rain. The day had start off well with early morning sunshine but as it got near time head north up the M6 to Kendal the clouds had started to roll in. There was Jeremy only waiting for me at the start of the ride at Ashes Lane and to be honest I did not think anybody other than myself would be at starting point for the ride due to weather forecast, so it was nice surprise to have some company for the ride, after few minutes chatting, we headed off along Ashes Lane and then down Crook Rood into Staveley for brew at Wilf’s Cafe.

Yes we did spend a bit time chatting in Wilf’s and I did hand out two Rough-Stuff Journals to group of four female mountain bikers from Kendal, after telling them about the South Lakes Group.

It not rocket science but more female members you get out on club rides, you get more male cyclists joining the club and coming out on group rides, it may something the RSF publicity committee should think about, how to make club more cool so that women will join the club.

It maybe something you maybe wish to comment about in the comment box below this ride report.

Any way getting back to ride we headed out of Staveley and followed the cycle path up to Ings where we decided to follow the Moorhowe Road over into the Troutbeck Valley, as we heading down into Troutbeck Valley we hit the rain, yes it was very heavy rain, so once we got down to the A592, I ask Jeremy if he had been to Holehird Gardens as thought that we would get a bit shelter from rain there for lunch and yes we did in one alpine houses in the  Gardens. On drier day I would spend a good hour wandering gardens looking at spring blooms.

Once we had lunch, we decided to admit defeat had back to cars at Ashes Lane, we did do about 16 miles, it was just not good day for staying dry in the Lakes.
