There was a bit of head wind as I followed the cycle path down the Lune Valley from Halton where I live down to start of the ride at Cafe d’Lune at Conder Green, which made me a few minutes late getting to the start of the ride.
I join six other members enjoying the delights of Cafe d’Lune, after putting the world to right we followed the lanes up the Conder Valley to Galgate where we cross over the A6 and followed the lanes up to Five lanes Ends, then regrouping stop outside Fleece Inn near Dolphinholme before following the lanes down into the Wyre Valley where we cross over the River Wyre via Street Bridge. We then headed on through Street up to Crosshill Four Lanes Ends where we followed the lane towards Scorton for the next mile before following lane passed Sykes Farm where everyone successfully cross the ford, then there was a bit more climbing to do before we got to start of the bridleway down Grize Dale. We stop part way down the bridleway for lunch.
After lunch, we continue on down the bridleway to end of the dale where we rejoin the tarmac, for a bit road work as we followed the lanes around to Apple Tree Store Cafe above Scorton for early afternoon cafe stop.
After our cafe stop, we followed the permitted bridleway from Wyredale Park back down into the Wyre Valley, then cross back over the River Wyre via Cleveley Bridge before heading through outskirts of Forton along Hollins Lane passing John’s new home before following Whams Lane back up to Five Lanes End. From Five Lanes End we followed the road down to Galgate, then headed out of Galgate by following the road through Ellel towards University of Lancaster where we followed the cycle path through the grounds of the University to Bailrigg. From Bailrigg we continue on cycle path into Scotforth, then follow the cycle route down to Lancaster Canal where John left us to head for home along the canal towpath. The rest of us followed the Canal towpath to Aldncliffe, then headed through Aldncliffe and followed Railway Crossing Lane to the Lune Valley Cycle Path where myself and Ian said our goodbyes as we were going to follow cycle path back into Lancaster where the rest of the party followed path back to Condor Green.
Well we manage miss the promise rain and the strong winds, it was also nice to see Jim out on South Lakes Group ride again.
