Ride Report by Simeon Orme

After meeting Peter and Chris at Ashes Lane, we followed the usual route in to Staveley (along Ashes Lane and then the Crook Road into Staveley) for morning brew at Wilf’s Cafe.

After deciding on the route in the cafe, we followed the cycle path along side the A591 up to Ings, then headed up Moorhowe Road towards Troutbeck, after about good mile of climbing we turn on to Dubbs Road which had alot of 4 x4s park up at one side of the track all the way up to Dubbs Reservoir and on other side of the track their owners watching the local hunt on the fellside. Once we got pass Dubbs Reservoir there a nice gate stopping any 4x4s going further up the road and the track turns into proper track which is not spoil by the 4x4s. We carry on up Dubbs Road and did bit more climbing to get to highest point of the ride before dropping down on to the Garburn Road which be done up and improve so that ride on it most of the way down, accept the last 20 metres down to A592 which mountain bikers would describe as highly technical to do which means its good ideal to get off and walk this part of the track. We stop to look at the view up the Trout Beck Valley for a few minutes as we headed down the Garburn Road to the A592. Once we were on tarmac again, we down the A592 for short distance to Church Bridge which we use to cross over Trout Beck, there quite few canoeists getting ready to set off  in the Beck as we climb up the lane to Troutbeck Village. From Troutbeck we followed the road down to Townend and then continue along Holbeck Lane before on to Mirk Lane which was our next track of the day, which we followed down to A591. Once we hit the A591, we made bit of detour heading towards Windermere on the cycle path along side A591 before heading in the right direction for Brockhole Visitor Centre where we had lunch in the cafe.

After lunch, we headed short distance down the A591 before heading up Wain Lane on Holbeck Lane which we followed back toward Townend. In Townend we followed the bridleway down to Trout Beck then up to A592 before following Moorhowe Road back to Ings. From Ings we headed back down the cycle path along side the A591 back to Staveley for afternoon brew at Wilf’s Cafe before heading back to cars park at Ashes Lane.
