Ride Report by Simeon Orme
Another good turn out of ten members at the start ride inside the Cafe d’Lune at Conder Green, it was nice see that all the local members had rode to the start of the ride with Alistair clocking up 68 mile by time he got home back across the border into Cumbria, you can read his ride report on Al’s World at this link, it was also nice to see that our past President Pat Lloyd was out and about after her stay in hospital and came to join us for a brew in the cafe, it will be another few months before she back on the bike.
After a lot of chatting and eating in the cafe, we headed through the lanes from Conder Green to Galgate, after crossing over the A6 in Galgate, we headed through the village towards Ellel where we join Langshaw Lane and then Kit Brow Lane for the climb out of the Conder Valley, there one comment from member of the party on how quite the lanes were in this part of North Lancashire, after mile or so of climbing, we had regrouping stop to look at the views before heading down into the Wyre Valley. We then followed Abbeystead Lane from Lower Green Bank up the Wyre Valley to Abbeystead, there were bit more traffic on this road due to folk going to church as there was a lot of cars park at side of road by local church half way between Lower Green Bank and Abbeystead.
In Abbeystead after crossing over the Tarnbrook Wyre and then the Marshaw Wyre, we followed road out of Abbeystead up through Hinberry Wood and pass Hawthornthwaite on to fell road which took us over the shoulder of Catshaw Fell, after bit of freewheel back down into the Wyre Valley, we followed a short bridleway with two fords pass Lane Head House down to Newsham Bridge (You should note this bridleway should be done after several days of dry weather), from Newsham Bridge another few miles of road work, we were at the start of the track down Grizedale. We stop for some lunch at the head of Grize Dale Reservoir.
After lunch, we followed the bridleway down Grizedale, after regrouping stop at the bottom of the valley, we headed into Scorton for afternoon brew at The Barn. As we coming out of the cafe after our coffee and cake, I did hear one comment from another cyclist’s who was part of our party that there were to many cyclist’s in the cafe.
From Scorton we followed the lanes through to Hollins Lane then on to Bay Horse and up to Five Lanes End before heading back through Galgate to Conder Green.
