Ride Report by Simeon Orme

It was good turn out of six members and big improvement on last week’s ride. After a lot eating and chatting in the cafe, we headed out of High Bentham on Bentham Road heading towards Ingleton for around about mile before turning on Dumb Tom’s Lane and then Nutgill Lane, once past Nutgill Farm we followed various lane towards the A65 and crossing over the A65 near Whinney Mire Farm. Then we followed the lanes up to Cold Cotes Waste where we stop to look at the Map and regroup. One member of the party spotted that our General Secretary had bald patch on the back tyre of his bike and as most members of the group know that our General Secretary does usual keep his bikes well maintain.

From Cold Cotes Waste we headed along Lowkber Lane into bit of head wind before turning on to Green Lane for the climb up to the Old Road. On the Old Road we were back with helpful tail wind for the climb up to Crooklands which is the highest point on the Old Road between Ingleton and Clapham, from Crooklands it fast free wheel down to Clapham where we headed to Reading Room Cafe at the Old Manor House for lunch.

After lunch we headed out of Clapham on Thwaite Lane the only off-road section of the ride which follow over to Austwick, from Austwick we followed the lanes down to Harden Bridge where over the A65 and headed from the Yorkshire Dales National Park in the Forest of Bowland AONB. From Harden Bridge we headed along Orcaber Lane and then Fummerber Lane to Lane Side Bridge where we turn into unhelpful head wind to follow Eldroth Lane and then Mewith Lane back to High Bentham.
